Empty Crown

With latern merely flickering
And night giving a symphony of lightless, eerie sound
That’s ever quickening
As troubles seem more sickening
I wonder why my head has yet to tread more stable ground

And yet I keep on travelling
To desolate locations that are never so profound
However dazzling
The surface is unraveling
Until I see there’s only gaping holes scattered around

So with a light expiring
And morning like a lover that had fled from being found
Of all inquiring
By silently retiring
I wonder why my hands don’t understand they aren’t bound

I merely let the fire die
Beneath the falling snow the world is wearing like a gown
And with a tired sigh
I see no need to say goodbye
Or ask if anyone would dare to come with me as I go further down
